Nicolas Hanson February 26, 2018 Share February 26, 2018 I have seen that there are LUTs on the market that expects rec709 inputs. Would those provide the same functionality as the same LUT in log version used on an log image?
Anton Meleshkevich February 27, 2018 Share February 27, 2018 You mean, to apply Rec709 LUT to Log footage to get graded image, but still stay in Log? Unfortunately it won't work as expected in most situations.
Nicolas Hanson February 27, 2018 Author Share February 27, 2018 I understand that most LUT's expects log as input, and that if you are working with rec709 footage you should transform your footage to log. But, what is really the drawbacks of using the rec709 look LUTs on rec709 footage?
Anton Meleshkevich February 27, 2018 Share February 27, 2018 (edited) It seems like I didn't understand correctly your first post. Most creative grading LUTs, as far as I know, created in Rec709. But then they have Log to Rec709 LUT before that. And then this all is baked into one LUT. However this is how I did in my own LUTs pack. Also I used some luminosity and saturation remapping. So, the is no any drawbacks of using the Rec709 look LUTs on rec709 footage. Edited February 27, 2018 by Anton Meleshkevich
